There’s a new kid on the block – Prince George’s Green. Prince George’s Green’s goal is to be a catalyst for the green economy in Prince George’s County. It will do this through green workforce development and green business development. Prince George’s Green would like to thank the Alice Ferguson Foundation for being its fiscal sponsor!
The green workforce development initiative will have a pipeline of potential employees, provide those potential employees with soft skills and a green careers education, help them get the training they need for the green jobs they are interested in performing, and then match them with local green businesses that have job opportunities. To borrow a phrase from my role model, Van Jones, we will connect the people who most need the work with the work that most needs to be done.
The green business piece will promote current green businesses, help traditional businesses go green, and incubate new green businesses. As Prince George’s Green promotes sustainability, it strives to be sustainable itself. Prince George’s Green is developing a social enterprise operation. The profits from this operation will feed back into the nonprofit for daily operations, training programs and assisting new green businesses.
Prince George’s Green wants to connect all things green – it is going to take all of us working together to address environmental and economic issues: government, business community, faith community and the nonprofit sectors. I would be happy to hear your suggestions about what would be helpful to the green economy in Prince George’s County.
Prince George’s Green is hosting a Launch Party on Wednesday, June 11th. Come to hear more about Prince George’s Green, network with others interested in the green economy, and enjoy a farm to table dinner! To purchase tickets: https://co.clickandpledge.com/advanced/default.aspx?wid=78397
